Buck for a Bird!

Last week, both the high school and the elementary school worked together to raise $1518.20 to purchase Thanksgiving turkeys for families in need. Donated to the Joyce Hansen Hall Food Bank at Catholic Community Services, over 1200 lbs of turkeys were given to provide warm holiday meals to families.

Booster Bavarian Festival

With an enticing Silent Auction, delicious brats, and fun dancing, the St. Joseph Catholic High School Boosters’ Association held its annual Bavarian Festival on Saturday, November 16^th. This year’s Bavarian Festival welcomed over 100 people and included food, dancing and the traditional silent auction, the “Bizarre Bazar”. In attendance was special guest Toffie Sawaya, who presided over the Boosters in 1974. The Boosters, a group of dedicated parents alumni and St. Joe community members, support the SJCHS Athletic Department. Through various social events and complementary tailgates, the Boosters raise funds to donate to St. Joes’ athletic programs. Last year’s combined social events raised over $17,000 for the school.

When asked about what makes the Boosters Association important, President Mikelle Weil said “The success of the Booster's comes from the melding of traditions and leaders from the past with the current generation of active parents wanting to promote and support St. Joseph. The common thread is passion for St. Joseph.”

Everyone is always welcome to come to the Booster events! Come and see some old friends, make some new friends and do something good for our school.

Senior Elizabeth Tomon Commits to Play College Basketball

On Thursday, November 15th Senior Elizabeth Tomon signed with Colorado School of Mines. She has committed to play basketball at the Golden, CO engineering school and hopes to major in chemical engineering. The entire SJCHS community is proud of her accomplishment!

Fall Whirlwind turns into Waiting for Winter

At SJCHS, Fall is always a very active time of year. October is perhaps one of the busiest months for students! Fall sports are beginning their climax, so the pressure is on for state tournaments and championships. The Theater Department usually produces a play, which many students participate in. The First Quarter wraps up with the usual barrage of tests, assignments, and projects. To add even more to the packed schedules of Jayhawks, the Sadie Hawkins Dance is always at the end of October!

For seniors, many early-admission college applications are due. Even for seniors not applying early, October is the time to begin the application process, ask for letters of recommendation, write essays, and finalize which schools to apply to.

All these activates and deadlines are stressful, but they also force students to be organized and manage their time efficiently. The hectic-ness of October can actually be fun for students who enjoy pushing themselves!

November is a welcome relief for many students. Schedules calm down enormously. Winter sports such as basketball start "Open Gym", and the Second Quarter continues to chug along nicely. For Theater, auditions for the annual musical commence. The entire campus breathes a sigh a relief after October and looks forward to colder weather, snow, and Christmas Break!

Sadie Hawkins Dance!

On Saturday, November 2nd, SJCHS had it's first dance of the year! Sadie Hawkins is a casual, girls-ask dance, and attending couples were matching t-shirts or outfits. Over 70 people came to Saturday's dance, and the Jayhawks partied-it-up dancing to DJ Jackson Reed's music.

As usual, the Sophomore Class is in charge of the dance and must plan decorations, refreshments, music, and faculty chaperones. This year, they did an excellent job! The decorations were fun and exciting, and everyone who attended had a good time.

Blood Drive

On October 30th, St. Joseph was the site of a Red Cross Blood Drive. Many students and parents participated and helped donate to this worthy cause.

College Fair! Again!

 This Saturday, October 12th, from 9:00-1:00, St. Joseph Catholic High School will host its second annual college fair to offer advice and information about college admissions.

Letters of Recommendation can set you apart from the crowd applying to your dream school. It is important to select people who know you well and will write a positive review of your character. We will share information about how to select the right person of reference for you!
